Jon Arthur - Editor
Jon was promoted to Editor of Pole Fishing after four highly successful years as Deputy Editor of Match Fishing magazine. With his dedication and enthusiasm the magazine will go from strength to strength – the fact that Jon fishes at the highest level and rubs shoulders with the very best match anglers in the country must surely help!
Jon is a pivotal member of the Shakespeare Superteam squad that won the Division One National, Match Fishing Team Champs Final and AT Team Champs Final in 2009, the latter match he won individually with 15lb of roach! Originally known for his expertise on canals, Jon has now cemented his reputation as a top commercial angler as well. In 2006 he won the prestigious Preston Innovations UK Individual Championship, the Tunnel Barn Farm Masters and qualified for the Fish 'O' Mania Final filmed live on Sky TV. He went on to defend his UK Champs title in 2007 and qualified for the Fish 'O' Mania Final again the year after. His consistency on a variety of waters also saw him finish fifth overall in the 2008-2009 Kamasan Matchman Of The Year table.
The pole is undoubtedly Jon's number one weapon and he is always experimenting to get an edge with different methods and baits. He loves fishing throughout the year and is as happy catching 200 'eyeballs' on a frozen canal as he is catching a ton of carp from a summer commercial!
Outside of angling, Jon has a BA Hons in Fine Art and a HND in graphic design. Since working for DHP he has also developed a passion for photography and loves to get in the water with his chest waders to snap the best pictures. He has an eclectic taste in music and enjoys live comedy nights.
Every month, Tom and Jon work together to ensure that Pole Fishing is the best angling magazine for anyone wanting to catch more fish on the pole!
Tom Scholey - Editorial Assistant
Tom has been a keen match angler since the tender age of 16, having contributed to several angling publications and Internet sites in that time. A former columnist for the Angling Star, and blogger on fishing4fun.co.uk, he is perhaps best known for his past job editing Northern Angling Today magazine.
An accomplished commercial angler, Tom is a regular on the festival circuit at White Acres, and also does well at venues such as Lindholme Lakes, Kiveton Waters and Lakeside Fisheries. He ranks his biggest angling achievement as finishing second in the 2009 Maver Pairs Competition along with partner Matt Godfrey. To put the icing on the cake for Tom he also won the final of the competition individually, breaking his personal best match weight in the process with a 205lb net of carp. His favourite kinds of fishing are chopped worm and caster on a short pole for silver fish or long pole shallow fishing for carp.
Despite having a degree in English, Tom spends much of his time helping other people in the office to decipher his thick Sheffield accent! Outside of fishing, Tom loves keeping fit, and nights out clubbing. He also trawls the Internet for bad jokes, which he likes to crack at every opportunity.
In the future, Tom aims to continue to develop his angling skills and work with Jon to make Pole Fishing the best magazine on the market.
