White Acres Garbolino Winter Festival

Well the time has finally come and I'm down not so sunny Cornwall for hopefully another cracking festival. Last year was my first silver fest and despite having to fish through the ice every day I loved every minute of it and was happy with my top-10 finish

This year the weather is much milder but we've got a bit of strong wind forecast (bit 'windy' in my lodge too at the mo!). I'm staying with the Banbury Gunsmiths boys this year: Steve 'I'm the best waggler angler I know' Waters, Derek 'one rig will do' Hammond, Dan 'look at my shiny new Rive' Varney, Little Ryan the Bait Bitch and our top chef for the week Paul 'what's an F1' Glenfield. The £1 coins have already been polished for the obligatory lodge sweep!

The only section I didn't really want to draw was D, purely because it means you start the festival with a split section between two pools: Sycamore and the 'points' of Pollawyn, which are very different lakes. Sods law, that's exactly what I pulled out when we did the section draw Saturday night. Oh well.

Sunday is practise day and I thankfully managed a couple of hours on both lakes and learnt a fair bit. Pollawyn could be peggy and big perch, skimmers, a pocket of F1s and even barbel will decide things on there so I fancy a days quality roach fishing in the pole and waggler on Sycamore given the choice. If practice is anything to go by, I reckon 30-40lb of silvers is more than possible on both lakes. We'll just have to see when I draw my peg tomorrow. Fingers crossed.
