After three long, stressful years at university it is every graduate's dream to walk straight into a job. So when a vacancy came up at the Angling Trust I thought all my birthdays had come at once. However, there was the little matter of getting the job first!
Before I knew it, I had graduated from university with a 2:1 degree, and the interview had come and gone.
All there was to do was wait for the ‘yay or nay’. I don’t think I’ve ever been as nervous in all my life waiting for a phone call giving me the good or bad news. Every time my phone beeped my heart sank.
Finally, the phone call I had been waiting for. I couldn’t believe it, I had got the job! I am now the Yorkshire and Humber Regional officer for the Angling Trust. To say I was pleased was an understatement, I was over the moon. I had feared that I would be stacking shelves at Tesco for the next five years, but to get a job in angling, I couldn’t be happier.
I feel very privileged and honoured to receive this opportunity, It’s not every day a match angler gets the chance to enhance his relationship with his sport’s governing body.
I can’t wait to start! I’m really confident that I can make a real impact in increasing angling participation in the region. I'm eager to put my skills and angling knowledge to good use and increase our sport's credibility and look to enhance future developments in angling.
There is a fantastic team at the Angling Trust and I am looking forward to being part of it. There has been a lot of negative attention surrounding the Angling Trust recently, especially within match angling. This is something I aim to change in my role and show that the Angling Trust is a well-needed commodity that represents and supports all anglers.
I can’t wait to start the job and develop the sport that we all love so much. If you have any queries or questions regarding angling and angling participation in the Yorkshire and Humber area, feel free to contact me on 07712 235751.
