The Big Comeback!

Kerry & Carass storm Lindholme.
The winning pair of last weekend’s Preston Innovations Pole Fishing Pairs Championship at Garbolino Lindholme Lakes, and taking home the £1,000 cash prize was Lee Kerry & Joe Carass. The duo scored a minimum two points, with both anglers winning their sections.

However, it was their combined weight of 37.730kg that swung the result in their favour, as Jon Whincup & Adam Wakelin were chasing with two points but a lower weight of 33.920kg, while Eddie Brydon and Brett Clark were also on two points, with a weight of 25.460kg.

A huge thank you and great admiration must go out to venue owner, Neil Grantham. The draw of this event is a £1,000 cash pairs prize for the winning pair of every round. With some pairs not turning up for this third round, the prize money would have to be dropped. However, Neil generously held the fund up, by adding £180 from his own pocket to ensure that the £1,000 prize was given out to the winning pair on the day. Thank you very much Neil!

The individual winner on the day was Drennan Barnsley Blacks star, Lee Harrison. Drawn on Peg 47 on Laurels Lake, Lee weighed a staggering 40.100kg of mainly F1s to 3lb. Lee drew with the gale-force winds directly in his face. Starting at six sections, Lee caught five F1s in the first two hours by fishing white maggots at five metres – leaving him last in the section. However, he‘d been potting in small balls of Sonubaits F1 dark groundbait at four sections. On switching to this, Lee caught 50 F1s in the final three hours, with a good smattering of other silver fish to take the match. The Pole Fishing regular has now framed in all three Preston Pole Pairs Championship matches!

In second place was the ever-consistent Andy May. Oushing out 30.800kg, the MAP and Bait-Tech backed master started on a top kit with maggots and casters, and caught 12lb of small roach. Switching to maggots down the edge in three feet of water for the final two hours, he caught 30 F1s. Double red maggot was his chosen hook bait.
