The Angling Trust has announced they are to launch a new junior coarse angling competition for 2015. The competition is part of the Angling Trust’s strategy to encourage more young anglers to take up match fishing and provide an entry point competitive fishing, while providing existing match anglers with the opportunity to showcase their skills and perform in a national competitions structure.
The competition is supported by Sport England and is to be sponsored by Preston Innovations and will be known as the Preston Innovations National Junior League. The competition will feature nine regional leagues, each with four fixtures and will be held on commercial fisheries throughout England between September and October 2015.
The competition is open to anglers aged 16 or under on 31st December 2016 and the cost of entering the league is very attractive at just £1 per week. Competitors will have the chance to win prizes supplied by Preston Innovations and the top three anglers from each league will win a day with Preston Innovations consultants while earning the title of regional champion.
Angling Trust’s Senior Competitions & Talent Manager Ben Thompson said “I’m delighted that we have been able to add this competition to our list of events and providing competitive opportunities for young people is important to the future of match fishing. There are a number of barriers that prevent youngsters competing in our sport, cost of equipment, cost of entry and travel being the main obstacles but with the support of both Sport England and Preston Innovations, I think we have the makings of a very good competition that will allow our young anglers to enter the world of match fishing at low cost to parents with minimal equipment required and importantly compete locally whilst being able to gain recognition for their achievements.”
Scott Geens, Brand Manager for Preston Innovations said ‘Introducing more youngsters to the sport is something we are passionate about and when we saw the proposal we just had to get on board. This is the ideal opportunity for any young angler to get involved, regardless of their skill level, and with minimal costs, thanks to the generosity of Sport England, I’m sure the competition will be a roaring success’.How To Enter:
